How Does Semaglutide Help You Lose Weight?

Semaglutide powers the weight loss medications Ozempic, Rybelsus, and Wegovy. Originally developed to treat diabetes, semaglutide functions as a GLP-1 receptor agonist that regulates blood sugar levels. It is not insulin.

In Ozempic, Rybelsus, and Wegovy, semaglutide mimics the hormone GLP-1, stimulating insulin release, reducing glucagon production, and slowing digestion.

Weight loss occurs as a secondary effect of its primary role in blood sugar management.

Some things to keep in mind:

Semaglutide is not the cure for weight loss. You still need to make lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, to achieve your weight loss journey.

Semaglutide is not for people with type 1 diabetes.
