Disclaimers and Safety Warnings

Thyroid cancer and other malignancies may be brought on by Mounjaro®. Keep an eye out for any potential signs, such as hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath, or a lump or swelling in the neck. Inform your healthcare professional if you have any of these symptoms.

  • If you or anybody in your family has ever had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), a kind of thyroid cancer, do not take Mounjaro®.
  • If you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), avoid using Mounjaro®.
  • If you have an allergy to Mounjaro® or any of its constituents, avoid using it.

Dosage

Mounjaro is administered through subcutaneous injection (under the skin), usually once a week. Instructions are provided with the medication.

Storage

  • Store it in the refrigerator at a temperature between 36°F and 46°F (2°C to 8°C). This helps preserve the medication’s effectiveness.
  • Do not freeze Mounjaro. If it accidentally freezes, dispose of the pen.
  • Keep the Mounjaro pen in its original packaging until you’re ready to use it. This helps protect it from light, which can degrade the medication over time.
  • Store Mounjaro at room temperature (up to 86°F or 30°C) for a short period, but not for more than 21 days. After this, it should either be used or discarded.
  • Keep Mounjaro away from direct sunlight, hot areas, or heat sources. Excessive heat can break down the medication, affecting its quality and safety.

Mounjaro Contraindications

Mounjaro and Alcohol

Alcohol may exacerbate some of the gastrointestinal side effects that Mounjaro can cause, such as nausea or vomiting. Talk to your healthcare provider about safe alcohol consumption based on your health history and treatment plan. Alcohol can also promote fat production and increase the risk of pancreatitis, a potential side effect of GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro.

Mounjaro is not recommended during pregnancy due to limited safety information. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, stop using Mounjaro and consult your doctor. They will help you find alternative treatments to manage your weight during pregnancy.
